About Gursharan Singh Chohan

My name is Gursharan Chohan, and I have proudly called Edmonton home for the past 15 years. As a father of three young children, I understand the importance of quality education and the challenges families face.

I believe every child deserves the chance to succeed in a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment. Alongside my professional background, with a Master’s in Business Management from India and a Diploma in Human Resources from a Canadian university, I also volunteer as a social worker and have worked closely with student organizations. These experiences give me valuable leadership, organizational, and community-focused insight.

I am running for Edmonton Public School Board Trustee to focus on the betterment of education, the creation of safe and welcoming schools, and the mental health and well-being of our children. I believe every child deserves the chance to succeed in a supportive environment, and I will work hard to ensure Edmonton schools prepare students for a brighter future.

My Priorities

Student Success

Every child deserves access to the tools, resources, and opportunities needed to thrive. I will advocate for programs that strengthen academics, support diverse learning needs, and prepare students for a bright future.

Community Engagement

Parents, teachers, and students should have a strong voice in shaping our schools. I will work to strengthen communication, transparency, and accountability between the school board and the families it serves.

Kids’ Mental Health

Our children’s well-being is just as important as their education. I will push for stronger mental health supports, early intervention programs, and access to counseling so every student has the chance to succeed inside and outside the classroom.

Safe and Welcoming Schools

Schools must be safe, respectful, and inclusive spaces. I will work to ensure that every student feels supported, valued, and protected, so they can focus on learning and growth.

Inclusion Builds Stronger Communities

When everyone feels welcome, respected, and valued, we all rise together. I will promote equity, representation, and inclusive practices so every student has the opportunity to succeed.
